We booked our flight!
I found some great flights through a site that offers student discounts. It’s the same one I used to travel to Peru; we saved literally over $1500 AND it’s a direct flight! This is really happening! The next challenge is figuring out how we are going to move all of our savings into the country while incurring minimal fees; transferring money is so expensive! I had a good laugh when he very seriously suggested that we carry all of it in cash in our suitcases. That was really his plan, which to me just seems ridiculous. Maybe it’s just one of those cultural things?!
